Start with the use case, then size the capacity
Production backups, document archives and data lakes have different access patterns. Before comparing S3 storage services in France, describe what your teams will actually do with the data: write frequency, object sizes, expected downloads, retention periods and volume growth.
At Mintera, this scoping connects purchased capacity to an operational need. A simple inventory is enough to begin: source application, initial volume, monthly growth, business owner and recovery scenario. It helps avoid choosing infrastructure solely on an advertised price per terabyte.
Document location and access control
Data location is a starting point. Also identify operators, administrative privileges and contractual conditions. Ask how access will be granted, revoked and monitored. A data center certification must be read with its scope: it does not automatically certify every service offered.
Mintera operates 25 PB of capacity in the Paris region, within an HDS and ISO 27001 certified data center. The service scope for your project must be defined in the proposal according to the data and use cases involved.
Test the S3 operations your tools need
S3 compatibility is a starting point. Run a trial with your software and representative data: upload, retrieval, authorised deletion, access management and recovery. If you need immutable copies, specify the expected behaviour and test retention policies before moving large volumes.
Agree success criteria in advance. A useful test produces a verifiable result: a backup completed within its window, restored files checked, and access denied to an unauthorised account. Keep the configuration and results to prepare the deployment.
Compare the cost of the complete scenario
Your budget should cover retained volume, growth, expected transfers and any support. Longer retention or multiple copies increase stored volume. Request a quote based on actual usage and an exit scenario specifying how you can retrieve your data.
Mintera storage starts at €6/TB/month. To prepare a proposal, share current volumes, tools, expected growth and recovery requirements. This creates a technical and economic basis for a decision suited to your environment.
